Art Workshop and Exhibition: AKMG Toronto, August 6, 2022

A window to the universe of arts, a tribute to the colourful journey called life, the rendezvous of imagination and reality. Spread out your minds on canvas, imprint your skills on moist clay, exhibit your artistic passions in abundance with joy and pride to the wider world. This is a unique avenue to sculpt the hidden artist in the amateur, meet the likeminded dreamers and dream purveyors, ditch the inhibitions and paint your deeper thoughts and etch the emotions poignantly for the future generations. Let us join hands and put our brushes and pastels on the easels to celebrate life in all its beautiful simplicity and nature in all its glory. As the world limps back post-Covid into a state of newfound normalcy, let’s rejuvenate ourselves from the grim shadows, shed the melancholia of the pandemic and welcome the novel world with the sheer joy of artistic creativity …let this be a new beginning, with art that touches every soul … A bridge of brightness and hope into the future from these rather uncertain times.

Obituary –Dr. John Abraham and Dr. Sany Abraham

Dear AKMG Family, It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of Dr. John Abraham on September 20, 2021 and Dr. Sany Abraham on September 18, 2021. Sani and John retired to Austin in 1998, first living in River Place, then moving to Lake Pointe before becoming founding members of the Longhorn Village in Steiner Ranch. Dr. Sany Abraham was a member of AKMG and a graduate of Medical College Trivandrum (batch of 1952 - 2nd batch). On behalf of AKMG I extend our heartfelt condolences to the family.
Dr. Nigil Haroon AKMG President president@akmg.org
Here is an excerpt from their son Lisbi Abraham's note. John and Sany Abraham passed away within 56 hours of each other on September 18th and 20th in Austin, Texas. Coincidentally, 56 was also their favorite card game. As they were together in life for the past 65 years, they are now together in death. Sany Abraham, 88, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021 in Austin, Texas surrounded by her family. Baptized as Sara Varghese, she was born on September 17, 1933 in Vaikom, Kerala India to Mathew and Kunjamma Varghese. She was the eldest of nine siblings. Sany graduated from Maharajas College, Cochin, India and then went on to Trivandrum Medical College, as one of a select few women to join in the 3rd batch. She met her husband, John, in Trivandrum in 1956, at a mutual relative’s house. What followed was a 5-year courtship that ended up in marriage in 1961, a “love” marriage that was extremely unusual for their time. Sany is survived by her son Jay Abraham (Anne Mathew) of Chicago, daughter Dr. Ann Abraham of Austin, and son, Lisbi Abraham (Karen) of Cary, NC; and five grandchildren Summer, Devin, Silas, Leila and Kira. She is also survived by seven of her siblings, three of them in Texas; Mary Roy (Kacey) of Austin, Roy Chirayil (Annie) of South Lake, TX and Rajan (Sara) Chirayil of Plano. After marriage, Sany remained in India for 2 years with their young son, while her husband, John, went to Canada for graduate studies. She soon followed and completed her residency in Internal Medicine. In 1970, with only $6 each, she and John immigrated to the United States, settling in Cranston, Rhode Island where she worked as, and eventually retired as, the Clinical Director for the State of Rhode Island Medical Center. She and John retired to Austin in 1998, first living in River Place, then moving to Lake Pointe before becoming founding members of Longhorn Village in Steiner Ranch. In addition to her career, Sany had many interests. She was a deeply religious woman. She enjoyed spending time with friends and playing the card game 56. She loved growing flowering plants and made macrame plant holders to show them off. Her skills included cake-decorating and paper crafts. She became well known for creating and sharing origami butterflies and flowers, which by now have spread around the world. After she moved to Longhorn Village, she broadened her creative skills by learning acrylic and oil painting, giving many of her loved ones a painting which now decorates their homes. She also honed her skills at Wii bowling, where she won a couple of championships, and learned to play Mahjongg. She was quite active in many of the exercise classes at Longhorn Village and was the first in the pool every morning.

Congrats Dr. Madhu Mathew!

Post submitted by Geogy Vennikandam.
Thrilled to share that my incredible wife, Madhu, has been selected to join the ABC News Medical Unit! She will be working alongside ABC’s Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton, MD, in helping to convey complex medical information to the general public for live broadcasts on Good Morning America, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir and other local affiliate stations like ABC 7 Chicago. Telling stories and sharing happiness has always been her obsession, and one of the many reasons why I married her was because of her zest for life & her genuine willingness to help others in need. Sometimes she does it with a stethoscope, but many of the times she is able to do it with a simple thought-provoking conversation. This new role into medical journalism gives her the opportunity & platform to provide unfiltered, informative & transparent health related information to millions of Americans who watch ABC news regularly on it’s various media outlets both online, in print and on television. Kudos to you on continuing to break the glass ceiling! Time and again you have shown that this country is not just the land of opportunity for citizens, but for also immigrants like yourself who are willing to put in the hard work! https://www.linkedin.com/in/madhu-mathew-vennikandam-178473127/
