Message from Dr. Devika Maheswari, ATMG (U..K.)

Our biggest thank you to each one of you for making this annual event,the silver jubilee annual event of the Association of Trivandrum Medical Graduates happen the mid September weekend.Our beloved association that knits us together as one personally and professionally. Our Alma Mater Trivandrum Medical College,the one that has opened many doors for us given us many privileges in life. The one that stands always tall and strong in our life wherever we are.The weekend was a further affirmation of the joy of friendships that started all those years ago and continues to this very day bright and strong.The laughter was heard loud and clear as friends and families came together from Friday ,the giggles,the humour,pulling each other’s legs,the warmth,the love ,affection and the intense camaraderie. What more could we ask for?The weekend encompassing whisky tasting,Charles Antony’s beautiful singing late into Friday night. Tony’s and Issac’s Bingo session ,the young girls who did tremendous work to sell raffle tickets.
A few hours of Continuing Medical Education on Saturday morning to satisfy our quest for learning with Prof Sivaraman,Prof Reji Tharian, Anup Vinayan and Neth Chidambaram . A big thank you to our chief guest,Dr Ramesh Mehta the president of BAPIO (British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) for being part of our big event. The captivating artistry of the exceptional dancers ….. Shams….🙏 Meenu,Shruthi,Anju,Anjali and Abhirami,Sabita,Indu,Jeethi ,Manju,Vidya and Deepa. Weaving true magic,these singers and dancers The exhilarating food journey over Friday and Saturday by Logan Caterers. The hotel team,our sponsors,the sound and light team,our sincere thanks. Seeing a number of our young graduates of our Alma Mater gave us untold joy. A million thanks to the excom members and others who have worked tirelessly to make this weekend happen.

Dr. Aravind Ganesh honored with the Panmure House Prize!

Calgary's stroke neurologist, Dr. Aravind Ganesh, won the 2022 Panmure House Prize, earning $75,000 for his innovative stroke research. He launched "Let's get Proof," a crowdfunding platform promoting transparent and trustworthy medical research funding, aiming to accelerate breakthroughs. This initiative bridges the gap between the public and philanthropists, revolutionizing the way we support medical advancements. Aravind is a Vascular and Cognitive Neurologist with expertise in clinical epidemiology, imaging, trials, and mixed-methods research, actively shaping stroke and dementia care guidelines. He's a dedicated advocate of medical education and peer review, contributing to prestigious editorial boards, and also enjoys stand-up comedy. His extensive academic journey includes an MD from the University of Calgary, a DPhil from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes scholar, and a postdoctoral fellowship in stroke and cognitive neurology.

I happened to be in LA and visited Dr Sindu Pillai, the current AKMG USA President. As she was visiting the venue for the next USA CONVENTION August 2024 at HILTON BAY FRONT SAN DIEGO, I decided to join. It's a great place to visit. We should attend the convention and see the sights and sound of San Diego.

AKMG Mentorship Series: Special feature on Dr. Elizabeth Mammen Prasad

Dr. Mammen has been at the forefront of designing and facilitating one-on-one mock interview practice sessions, which are essential for medical professionals navigating the competitive job market. Her adeptness in creating real-world interview scenarios and providing constructive feedback has empowered countless individuals to confidently step into their desired roles. Additionally, she has played a pivotal role in organizing and moderating group sessions and journal club meetings. These interactive gatherings have become a platform for participants to refine their communication skills, engage in enlightening discussions, and stay abreast of the latest advancements in medical literature. Dr. Mammen's guidance has undoubtedly sharpened the communicative and critical thinking abilities of program participants.One of the standout achievements of Dr. Mammen's mentorship journey has been her instrumental role in hosting in-patient observerships. This initiative not only offers IMG graduates invaluable hands-on experience but also opens doors for them to observe various facets of hospital operations.This summer, Dr. Mammen supervised the observership of three talented IMG graduates: Dr. Naveen Tency, Dr. Archa Roy, and Dr. Mary Vincent. These individuals had the privilege of immersing themselves in a wide array of infectious disease cases. Under Dr. Mammen's guidance, they interacted with residents, fellows, and attending physicians, gaining a holistic understanding of the collaborative nature of healthcare.Moreover, these budding professionals had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with electronic healthcare systems such as EPIC and Cerner, ensuring they are well-prepared for the modern healthcare landscape. Witnessing the rigorous infection prevention measures and patient safety protocols further enriched their observership experience. Dr. Mammen's work embodies the spirit of mentorship, guiding individuals through the intricacies of their medical journeys. Her legacy serves as an inspiration for current and future generations of medical professionals.

Mentorship update from AKMG Canada

Sharing some exciting updates on our mentorship activities. Our dedicated team of mentors and mentees has been working hard to support each other's growth and development. Here's a quick rundown of what's been happening:
1.Dr.Rajesh Ramachandran Nair has been generously dedicating his time and expertise to conduct mock interviews and similar sessions. This invaluable assistance is helping our mentees prepare effectively for the USMLE exams through the AKMG mentorship program,. 2. Dr.Shereen extended an observorship opportunity to Dr. Raji. Observerships provide a unique chance to gain hands-on experience and learn from experienced professionals. 3. Dr.Shakkeela Firoz has gone above and beyond by providing employment to Dr. Sreeja. 4. IMG Activities Supervision: Drs.Nigil Haroon and Krishna Kumar Nair have taken up the essential role of supervising overall IMG activities. 5. Dr. Nisha Nigil has been supervising IMG research projects, contributing to our mentees' academic and professional development. Additionally, she has provided part-time job and internship opportunities to Dr. Sumesh and Dr. Geethi, helping them gain practical experience. 6. Dr. Usha Harikumar is in the process of potentially offering an opportunity to an IMG in her clinic. While it's not finalized yet, this prospect represents another fantastic chance for professional growth within our community. 7. Dr. Rakesh Mohankumar has been instrumental in helping Dr. Sumesh secure an observership at UHN (University Health Network). Observerships like these are crucial for enhancing clinical skills and knowledge. 8. Dr Syam Menon and Dr. Smitha K guided Dr. Kirthika to get a research assistant position at the presigious McMaster Cardiology dept. These are just some of the incredible mentorship activities taking place within our committee. We're constantly working on new initiatives to support our mentees' journeys.
