Today AAPI presented the Award for “ The most distinguished service to AAPI “ at the Annual Convention in San Antonio, TX.

With the pandemic in its final phases, the AKMG Florida Chapter organized an in-person networking event on May 15th, 2022 at Tabla Indian Restaurant, Orlando. The new office bearers of the chapter Dr. Sreekanth Viswanathan and Dr. Elakkat Gireesh coordinated and led the event. The presence of five former AKMG presidents from Florida including Dr. George Thomas, Dr. MP Ravindranathan, Dr. Aravind Pillai, Dr. Sunil Kumar, and Dr. Usha Mohandas made the event especially memorable. Our current AKMG President Dr. Nigil Haroon and First Lady Dr. Nisha Nigil (Canada) also graced the occasion. Dr. Kanekal S. Gautham, MD, DM, MS, FAAP, Chair of Pediatrics at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Orlando, FL gave the keynote talk on 'Burnout and Resilience in Physicians and Other Health Care Professionals”. We are happy to share information about a new book on spinal surgery published by neurosurgeon Dr. Sunil Manjila. Dr. Manjila has co-edited "Lumbar Interbody Fusion (Elsivier UK, an exclusive text book on lumbar interbody fusions, explaining the nuances In techniques of both open and minimally invasive spinal procedures. Dr. Sunil Manjila is a clinical neurosurgeon, published researcher and a physician entrepreneur with dual residency training in neurosurgery at CMC, Vellore and CWRU,Cleveland. He also completed an enfolded fellowship in neuroradiology and has over 100 Pubmed -indexed academic publications. Dr. Manjila was the former Chief of neurosurgery and Chairman of Neurosciences at McLaren Bay Region in Michigan. Dr. Manjila also is the cofounder of MASIT, Manjila and Singh InnoTech Pvt. Ltd ( India) and Taurean Surgical Inc (USA) specialized in surgical robotics. Dr. Manjila also serves on the advisory board of many companies and organizations.

It was a real pleasure for Akmg Georgia chapter to present a check for $4037 to the Atlanta Food Bank today. Many Thanks to all our generous donors who made this possible. We hope to have more participation next year and years to come. It was not a huge amount but when you think this amount will feed a meal for over 16000 less fortunate people, it makes us feel good as part of our community. Thank you AKMG. Dr. Santhosh K.G Koshy MD, MBA was appointed as the new Chair of the Department of Medicine at WMED, Western Michigan University. Dr. Koshy is an interventional cardiologist, and is currently a professor in the JT and Margaret Talkington Department of Medicine at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine. He was the previous chair of the department.
